Jennifer Rowan

J ROW

My name is Jennifer Rowan, and I am the owner of "Academy Fitness Prep." This program was created to increase the success of future candidates preparing for a career in the fire service. I retired from the Reno Fire Department as a fire engine operator with 25 years of professional fire/EMS experience.

Before I started my career in structural firefighting, I was an explorer with Las Vegas Fire and Rescue, then a wildland firefighter with the US park service. During the off-season, I worked as an advanced EMT with Southwest Ambulance out of Las Vegas, Nevada.

My accomplishments throughout my career include a promotion to fire equipment operator, FEO training officer, EVOC instructor, MDA coordinator, and recruit training officer.

I met my husband while we were both starting our careers in the fire service. He is now a Captain with the Reno Fire Department, and together, we have raised three beautiful children. The firehouse has not just been a place of employment for me. It has been a second family and continues to provide me with a network of love and support into my retirement. I will continue instructing classes and specializing in functional fitness training for academy preparation in retirement.

Being in the fire service, I have had opportunities to work with multiple agencies. I have realized a need exists for a program that helps better prepare candidates to meet the physical and mental demands this career requires. This program aims to set you up for long-term success by teaching you how to train and fuel your body so injury can be avoided and you can perform your duties effectively and efficiently.

I have advocated for young men and women throughout my career and thoroughly enjoyed training recruits for the service.
